September 2017

 

The Tudors and Stuarts. September's featured theme was the engaging topic of The Tudors (1485-1603) and Stuarts (1603-1714).  The study of this period in history, along with its kings and queens, has always proved to be a favourite with children and we have over 60 fabulous Tudor and Stuart themed websites on offer.

Together, the resources cover Tudor and Stuart:  royalty, history, life, religion, exploration and much more besides. The theme also includes famous historic events such as the Great Fire of London, The Spanish Armada, The Civil War and more. Famous people of the period are also explored, including: the kings and queens, Samuel Pepys, Oliver Cromwell, and Shakespeare to name a few.

As always, the resources comprise of a mixture of: information, facts, research, hands-on activities, timelines, illustrations, audio and video clips, as well as some detailed planning - each of which will effectively support this extremely interesting and very wide-ranging theme.

 

 

Harvest Festival. Harvest Festival is a time when farmers and others give thanks for a successful harvest. In the past, large meals were shared among family and friends but in more recent times, the festival has become more about sharing with those less fortunate than ourselves, or raising funds for worthy causes. Explorers and Exploration.   Our Featured Theme for July and August 2017 was the amazing topic of ‘Explorers and Exploration’. In this theme, we look at explorers, their significant exploration accomplishments and the remarkable human endeavour and tenacity required in achieving their respective ambitions. There are 70 superb themed websites on offer covering many famous explorers and their marvellous achievements in discovery. We look closely at the history, geography and human effort involved in the exploration of: our world, our oceans, our early trade routes, our mountains, our poles, outer space and more.
 

June 2017 

Inventors and Inventions.   In June we explored the fascinating world of Inventors and Inventions. We have 50 super themed websites on offer covering famous inventors and their marvellous, life-changing, inventions. Can you imagine what it might have been like today if Thomas Edison hadn’t invented the electric light bulb or Tim Berners-Lee the World Wide Web? We also explore perhaps the not so well known inventors and what they have invented.  In the process, we look at the history and development of many of the technological wonders that we take for granted these days which were once merely ideas in the inventors mind.

Ancient  Greece. This month's featured theme is the appealing and informative topic of ancient Greece.  The study of the culture and history of Greece, along with the ancient Greek people, always proves to be fascinating for children and a considerable amount of our academic, medical, judicial and cultural beliefs can find their origins in ancient Greece. We have nearly 50 excellent themed websites on offer. The resources encompass the subjects of History, Design & Technology, Geography and Art & Design. Collectively, the resources cover ancient Greece and Greek:  history, culture, art, law, mythology, food and drink, gods and goddesses, Olympic Games, Greek wars and much more besides. Minibeasts. April's featured theme was the fascinating topic of Minibeasts.  “Quite literally, a ‘minibeast’ is simply a small animal. Spiders, snails, slugs, beetles, centipedes, worms, earwigs, caterpillars... Those are just a few well-known examples of the thousands and thousands of types of ‘creepy-crawlies’ that exist all over the world. Officially, minibeasts are called invertebrates which are animals without a backbone, and these are the most numerous type of animal in the world. In Britain alone there are over 25,000 species of invertebrates known.” (YPTE)

 

Children really enjoy hunting and studying minibeasts and as a topic, it is a super way to get children out of the classroom and doing some great hands-on science. Colour. February's featured theme was the far-reaching and really creative topic of Colour.  Use of colour is something that is part of our every-day lives. Colour is all around us; it is used by artists, designers, engineers, journalists and advertisers to name but a few.  It can be used to alter the appearance and appeal of items or locations and can also reflect moods and convey messages. This is why it makes for a really appealing and creative classroom topic.

Christmas. Not surprisingly, December's main featured theme was Christmas. For this festive theme, we have over 35 brilliant websites on offer. They cover: The Christmas Story, history, traditions, craft, activities, planning, lots of games and activities and much more besides. These great resources will hopefully help you through the busy Christmas period in school. 

 

 

 

Chocolate.   In our supporting theme for December, we explored the scrumptious subject of chocolate. We have over 20 super themed websites on offer. We  explore: where chocolate comes from and the cacao plant, how chocolate is made, its history and the geography involved, Fairtrade chocolate, science experiments using chocolate, some really delicious chocolate recipes and more...

Computing and Communication Technology.   Following on from October’s theme of Online Safety,  we explored the fascinating world of computing and communication technology. We have over 120 super themed websites on offer - 106 computing sites covering computing, computer science, online safety, digital literacy, history of computing, computer simulations, animation, iPads and much more besides. There are also 20 great communication technology resources that explore the history and development of: communication technology, the telegraph, the telephone, radio, television and satellites.

 

October 2016

Festivals and Celebrations.   Autumn is upon us, the leaves are falling and October's featured theme is the comprehensive and very relevant topic of Festivals and Celebrations.  As you know, there are a considerable number of festivals and celebrations that take place in the autumn of each year. We have over 80 super themed websites on offer to help study these events. Collectively, the resources cover: Harvest Festival, Halloween, Bonfire Night, Diwali, Hanukkah, Rosh Hashanah, Yom Kippur, Chinese Mid-Autumn (or Moon) Festival, Christmas and much more besides.  Although Christmas will be covered as a separate theme in December, we thought that it might be good to also include some Christmas resources within this month’s theme to aid advance planning and craft supply orders.

 

Online Safety.  Children start using computers from a very early age and are increasingly using the Internet more and more whether it is at home, in school, on their mobile phones or on games consoles. With this in mind, Internet Safety and knowing how to help protect children and young people online is essential knowledge. We have over 40 great online safety resources to help you understand the important issues surrounding: browsing, social media, cyber bullying, blogs, chat rooms, password and personal details security, etc. The resources also provide guidance on what you need to do in order to promote safe use of the Internet for our young people.

The featured theme for September 2016 was the fascinating and enjoyable topic of ancient Egypt.  The study of the culture and history of Egypt, along with the ancient Egyptian people, always proves to be captivating and memorable (who doesn’t remember the process of mummification from their own days at school?). We have over 50 super themed websites on offer. The resources encompass the subjects of History, Design & Technology, Geography and Art & Design. Collectively, the resources cover ancient Egyptian:  kings and queens, pyramids and tombs, art, hieroglyphs, food and drink, mummification, gods and goddesses and much more besides.

Water, is a wide-ranging and fascinating study and in July and August we  gathered together over 50 great water resources for you:

The Oceans and Beneath the Sea.  Water, in the form of the oceans and seas of the world, is a really interesting area to study. About 70 percent of the Earth's surface is water-covered, and the oceans hold about 96 percent of all Earth's water. These oceans and seas are host to an enormous diversity of sea life. We have over 25 great resources that explore: the location and make-up of the oceans, the importance of the oceans to our ecology, the sea life to be found in them and a great deal more in addition.

 

 

Water and the Water Cycle. Water and the Water Cycle are also really fascinating focuses. Water is an essential commodity to sustain life; however, it, unfortunately, is not as readily available in some parts of the world as it is in this country. Where does it come from? Food Glorious Food. June's featured theme was the wide-ranging and really mouth-watering topic of food.  Food is a something that is dear to us all. We all need food, we all enjoy food and therefore, it makes for a really fascinating and often delicious classroom topic. Castles and Buildings. This month's featured theme is the interesting topic of Castles and Buildings. We have over 50 great themed websites on offer. They include many resources for KS1 and KS2 about castles and also a large number covering homes, houses and buildings, mainly for KS1 but also some for KS2. The resources explore: how castles are built, where they are located, what materials were used in construction, how they were defended and attacked, what it was like to live in them and much more besides. Mountains. The first of this month's featured themes is the stimulating topic of Mountains. We have over 30 great themed websites on offer. They explore: how mountains are formed, different mountain types, the locations of many mountains and mountain ranges, famous mountain explorations and much more besides. The wide-ranging resources comprise of a mixture of: information, research, activities and video clips and also some detailed planning - each of which will effectively support this interesting and notable topic.

 

 

Deserts. Our second theme is Deserts and we have 30 super resources, covering: hot and cold deserts, desert regions and locations, desert climates, how living things adapt to living there, desert flora and fauna and more. We think that this is an appealing theme and the many resources we have collected will hopefully educate viewers as to the locations and climates of the deserts of the World and what can be found in desert regions.

Environment. The first of March's featured themes was the interesting topic of the Environment. We have over 60 great themed websites on offer. They explore the Earth, sustainability, conservation, recycling, energy use, pollution, rainforests and much more besides. The wide-ranging resources comprise of a mixture of: information, research, activities and investigations, audio and video clips and also some detailed planning - each of which will effectively support this appealing and important topic.

 

 

Rainforests. Our second theme is Rainforests. Although this topic is covered in the Environment theme above, we thought that there were sufficient rainforest resources for it to warrant its own theme. We have 27 super resources, covering: the bio diversity of rainforests, along with their identity, make-up, the animals and plants found there, their location, climate and more. We think that this is a fascinating theme and the resources we have collected will hopefully enlighten viewers as to what rainforests are, why they are important to the environment and what can be done to help preserve them.

Bonfire Night and the Gunpowder Plot. As Bonfire Night falls in November,  in addition to our featured monthly theme for that month, we also included sixteen great Bonfire Night and Gunpowder Plot resources, including the history and traditions of  the celebration, fireworks and firework safety and more; all of which, teachers may find really useful.
